Daredevil Born Again - Review

Comic Book Brain mini-review: really nice extended action sequence kicks of the show only marred by two things: a character survives an unbelievable face first splat to the pavement from atop a multi-story building (I saw the episode with two other people who commented on it, so this really stood out as unreal for us). Some on the internet have said the medical work on the character's spine in a previous season of Daredevil holds the answer to the survival from this fall, but if that were the case, the scriptwriters would have added some sort of story-hook, I think, such as a character within the show commenting on the unbelievability of the fall and survival, to set up the question of "how?" properly so a later story revelation would show us the answer. Maybe an answer is still coming but the way it was presented was "just believe it, TV viewer". The second problem isn't really a legit problem since the scriptwriters hold the god-like powers to kill and maim the cast, and so they killed off an important character. Or maybe that character was really a Skrull.

Matt Murdock and Kingpin get together in the show a few times to face-off and reminisce a little so as to help bring the TV show audience up to date on what's happened in the past, and what might be happening in the future, with this Daredevil story line, and it is wrapped around a thinly-veiled political analogy.

Cinematography for the show is in that dark screen de-saturated color that helps to hide CGI, green-screen and incomplete sets, and of course helps set the mood. The script writing has the sometimes glacial pace of TV shows that draw out things casually and slowly, perfectly acceptable for most of the audience, I suspect. Dialogue also has that modern drama TV-show style of rationing the lines a character says, as if there's just not going to be enough to get us through the hour if we blurt it all out at a normal human pace.

Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio could do this show while napping, they've got the characters all nailed down, and they make it look effortless. The rest of the cast is also fine but they're really just supporting the two leads at this point. It's a good start for the series.
