Reactions to the Kraven the Hunter movie changes – MSN Newsweek
New Kraven the Hunter Promo - First 8 minutes of the film
Pretty daring way to promote the film, giving the potential ticketbuyers a way to judge the film in a small way without depending upon only the ballyhoo of a trailer, which as we know, can be quite misleading, for good or ill. Movie makers are trying to bridge the bad repuation films (or at least superhero films) have earned in the last years.
The growing phenomenon of the CCXP comics convention in São Paulo – Polygon
The first edition of CCXP was held in December 2014 in São Paulo. Originally just a media outlet, Omelete partnered with local companies Piziitoys and Chiaroscuro Studios for collectibles and comic books, respectively. The stakes were high. According to CCXP vice president of content Roberto Fabri, had the first edition failed to meet expectations, the company would’ve gone bankrupt.
A decade later, CCXP has held conventions across Brazil, Germany, and Mexico. While CCXP Cologne was put on standby with the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war making it hard to operate in Europe, the current schedule — Brazil in December and Mexico in May — allows the team to anticipate the winter and summer releases in both the Northern and Southern hemispheres. It also ensures a larger audience, covering both the Portuguese and Spanish languages.
Japan ramps up fight against online piracy against manga and anime – Comicbook
Per NHK, the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs has allocated 300 million yen ($2 million) to fighting online piracy and investing in new AI software. The program is still in development, but the aim is for AI to detect pirated material as soon as it is posted online. According to statistics released by the Agency for Cultural Affairs, anime and manga piracy causes an estimated 2 trillion yen ($133.8 million) in yearly damages..."
The current construction of the internet has made it very simple to locate and utilize "pirate" websites that offer comics "free of charge." The fight of creators to get paid is hard enough without pirating efforts adding to the weight of thievery that robs them of earnings for their work.

Obituary for Comics Historian Tim Jackson – The Comics Journal

"Why the French love graphic novels" – The UK Times – "The French bought 75 million bandes dessinées* last year"
The French are known for their love of the bande dessinée — BD for short — with a passion not matched in the English-speaking world. Last year they snapped up 75 million of them — in the UK, by contrast, we bought only 5.7 million. In a recent survey of French book buyers, comics were cited as the fourth most popular genre, behind DIY, lifestyle/leisure and history, but ahead of spy and crime novels. They are considered an art form and certainly not just for kids...."
*aka "Comics" or "the art form of sequential storytelling."
Looking for a count on the number of graphic novels sold in the USA each year, on average, is fruitless. But, the total revenue is estimated at some $2 billion and more for a years worth of sales, according to ChatGPT.

In the first season of "Batman Unburied," a serial killer known as The Harvester terrorizes Gotham City, but Batman (Duke) is not coming to the rescue. In fact, Bruce Wayne has no memory of being the Caped Crusader at all. Instead, Bruce is a forensic pathologist, performing the autopsy on the latest victim when he's attacked by the killer himself.

Are Indy comic books going to be able to survive rising costs – AV Club
For the past 12 years, standard 32-page comic titles were priced at $3.99, with some titles (mainly for kids) still at $2.99. But prices have been steadily rising; more than half of all new comics in 2024 cost $4.99, with some going up a dollar or two more with variant and stock card covers, or in some cases, extra story pages. It might seem like a small difference, but it has big implications, Image Comics co-founder and Spawn creator Todd McFarlane explained. "…For 20 or 25 bucks when we were younger, you used to be able to walk out [of a comic book store] with a pretty thick bag full of comic books. Now you can count them on your fingers."...
McFarlane also talks about being told by Marvel and DC people that some books are going to be put out on cheaper paper to get the prices back down, on some titles, to $3.99. Lookign further down the road in this way of thinking, it will be the height of irony if some portion of the comic book business once again finds itself back on newsprint (the cheapest printing paper that dominated comics for many, many decades). The problem, though, is that newsprint traditionally requires "web printing" which is only manageable for cost when the print run is a large number - - something that most comic titles simply do not have.
