Mike Kaluta Batman Cover Artwork

November 1973, DC Comics, Issue 253

When DC Comics resurrected The Shadow which ran for awhile through the 1970s, Kaluta claimed the character by providing clear, dynamic renderings of the character (Kaluta drew the first issue of The Shadow). Combining Batman and The Shadow was obviously a marketing strategy to help spread the news that the character was alive and kicking in DC Comics, and Kaluta provides a Batman who is providing an exclamation mark to the giant, nearly-supernatural figure looming over Gotham.
