Delilah Dirk by Tony Cliff
Delilah Dirk and the Seeds of Good Fortune
Seeds of Good Fortune A mini-Epic
Tony Cliff's 30-page "Delilah Dirk and the Seeds of Good Fortune" is a good continuance of the adventures of the tricky, sword-swinging adventuress that appeared in the online (Free) graphic novel Delilah Dirk and the Turkish Lieutenant.
Dirk is an ever resourceful thief-heroine who plays a kind of Robin Hood role in Ottoman-era Asia Minor. In both this nicely printed tale (color covers, black and white interior) "Delilah Dirk and the Seeds of Good Fortune" and the first adventure, we see and learn more about the Turkish Lieutenant than Dirk. He is hesitant to pursue Dirk's globe-trotting ways, claiming he wants to settle and practice his primary interest of making excellent cups of tea. Though he tries this way of life, he ends up back in Dirk's company, facing overwhelming odds, usually in pursuit of goals he doesn't really understand, and stealing valuables he doesn't particularly want. Dirk, on the other hand, has a clearly defined goal (which in the nature of the two tales is part administering justice, and the other a capricious enjoyment of brawling).
Animated, clearly -shown story-telling in the artwork, and a light adventure/comedy tone (and some fantasy, for example Dirk's amazing flying boat), these comics (the FREE online graphic novel and the $6.00 continued adventures in "Seeds of Good Fortune" pamphlet comic) are highly recommended.
